CHALLENGE Armchair - Quick Ship
The CHALLENGE Armchair demonstrates how precision, restraint, and craftsmanship can create a design that feels both visually light and remarkably strong.
Designed by Hamburg-based studio Maly Hoffmann Kahleyss (MHK), CHALLENGE explores the relationship between delicacy and durability. At first glance, its finely sculpted frame appears almost impossibly slender. A closer look reveals the extraordinary engineering and woodworking expertise required to achieve such refinement while preserving lasting structural integrity.
Every line is intentional. Every angle is carefully considered. The result is a chair that feels architectural yet welcoming, disciplined yet comfortable.
Whether surrounding a dining table, anchoring a hospitality space, or complementing a contemporary interior, CHALLENGE offers a timeless expression of modern Japanese craftsmanship designed to be appreciated for generations.

The Story Behind CHALLENGE
As its name suggests, CHALLENGE emerged from a series of technical and creative challenges.
MHK set out to create a chair that would feel visually sharp and precise while remaining comfortable enough for everyday living. Achieving this balance required rethinking how a chair could provide support—not through excessive padding, but through proportion, geometry, and craftsmanship.
The frame was carefully sculpted to achieve a remarkably slender appearance while maintaining the durability expected of furniture designed for generations of use. Every connection, angle, and transition required careful refinement to create a form that feels effortless despite its complexity.
The upholstered seat and back continue this philosophy. Their clean, graphic appearance complements the architecture of the frame while providing comfort that invites lingering conversations around the table.
Like the HAKAMA Table, CHALLENGE reflects MHK's belief that clarity often emerges from complexity. What appears simple on the surface is the result of countless design decisions working together in harmony.
The result is a chair that feels contemporary yet timeless—a piece defined not by excess, but by precision.
CHALLENGE is not designed around trends. It is designed to become part of a home for lifetimes.

California Inventory Program
Twice each year, CondeHouse Japan releases a carefully selected inventory program featuring customer favorites, award-winning designs, and notable new introductions.
These pieces are handcrafted in Hokkaido, Japan and shipped to CondeHouse's California warehouse as part of a limited small-batch release program. The collection represents some of CondeHouse's most celebrated designs, allowing select pieces to be enjoyed without the lead times typically associated with made-to-order Japanese furniture.
Inventory is intentionally limited and reflects only a small portion of the broader CondeHouse collection. Each piece maintains the same materials, craftsmanship, and quality standards found throughout the brand's made-to-order offerings.

For some available inventory, we do not have photography of every wood, finish, and upholstery combination available.
Material swatches are shown to represent true color and texture. Lifestyle and product photography are provided for design reference. When photography of a specific available combination exists, it will be shown as the corresponding variant.
